Reporting content

HowToUseAICleverly hosts what its users upload. We do not check it in advance — nobody could — but we act on what is reported. Copyright complaints go to the front of the queue.

The quick way

Every post, comment and file has a report button. If you have an account, that is the fastest route: it lands directly in the moderation queue, and choosing copyright as the reason moves it to the top.

What a copyright notice needs to contain

So that we can act instead of writing back to ask, please include all of the following:

1. The exact address of the post, comment or file. A link to the page is not enough if the page contains several items — tell us which one.
2. What the work is, and enough detail to identify it: the title of the book, the course, the document.
3. Why you hold the rights — you are the author, the publisher, or acting with their authority.
4. Your name and a contact address. We do not act on anonymous notices, because we have to be able to pass your complaint to the person who posted the material.
5. A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the rights holder or by law, and that the information you have given is accurate.

What we do

We look at the report and, if it is well founded, remove the material. We tell the person who posted it what was removed and why, and we point them at this page.

We are one person, not a department. We aim to deal with copyright reports within a few days and we will not promise a response time we cannot keep. What we will not do is let a report sit unanswered: if we need more information, we will ask.

Accounts that keep posting other people’s material get closed. This is written into the community rules as a first-offence removal, because the site’s whole promise is that people share the method rather than the source.

If your content was removed and you disagree

Write to vincenzodemartino31@gmail.com and explain why. Tell us what was removed, and why you have the right to post it — you wrote it, you have a licence, or it is a quotation short enough that copyright does not reach it.

If you are right, we put it back. If a rights holder and a user disagree in good faith, we will say so to both rather than pretend to be a court.

Other kinds of report

The same address handles everything else that does not belong here:

• content that is unlawful in the country where you are;
• personal data about you, posted by someone else;
• content that targets a private individual;
• malware, or a file that is not what it claims to be.

For personal data, you can also use the rights described in the privacy policy.

One thing to be aware of

A takedown notice is a legal statement. Sending one to silence criticism, to remove a competitor’s review, or over material you do not own can carry consequences for you under the law of your country. Report what is actually yours.
